WTLC and the NSA's Menstrual product donation driveThank you to our February speaker, Jennifer Portillo, a Clinical Advocate at the Women’s Transitional Living Center (WTLC), a domestic violence shelter in Orange County. She is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and she provides counseling services to the center's participants via one on one counseling sessions, psychoeducational groups and crisis interventions. Jennifer spoke about the organization's resources, and taught us how to best help these clients when introduced to them in the clinical setting. Please see her attached powerpoint presentation for more information.
Following Jennifer's presentation, our Co-Historian, Lindsay, presented on the public health issues associated with menstrual health, and announced NSA's upcoming Menstrual Product Donation Drive and Health Policy Movement, which will benefit those served by the WTLC as it generates support for proposed state bills AB 9 and AB 10! If you missed the presentation, you can watch it below. If you are interested in participating in the donation drive in any way, please contact Lindsay at [email protected]. Be the matchThank you to Julie Korinke, Community Engagement Representative for Be the Match, who came and spoke at our final General Meeting of the 2015-2016 school year. We learned that Be the Match hopes to grow and diversify its registry of donors so they can better serve their patients with blood diseases. Several of us went through the simple process of swabbing and applying to become donors! If you'd like to learn more about this awesome organization that's saving lives, check out their website here.
